The SSS Salary Loan is one of the most affordable loan programs available to Filipino workers. With an interest rate of just 10% per annum, it offers significantly cheaper borrowing than private lenders. Here is everything you need to know to apply in 2025.
- Loanable amount: Up to a 2-month salary credit (max varies by contributions)
- Interest rate: 10% per annum
- Repayment term: 24 months (2 years)
- Service fee: 1% (deducted from loan proceeds)
- Application: Online via My.SSS or at any SSS branch
- Who can apply: Active SSS members with at least 36 monthly contributions
What Is the SSS Salary Loan?
The SSS Salary Loan is a member-benefit program offered by the Social Security System (SSS) of the Philippines. It allows employed, self-employed, and voluntary SSS members to borrow against their accumulated contributions. The loan is designed to provide affordable short-term financing for personal needs such as emergencies, education expenses, medical bills, and home improvements.
Unlike private online lenders, the SSS Salary Loan offers a very low interest rate of 10% per annum, making it one of the cheapest borrowing options available in the Philippines.
Requirements
To qualify for an SSS Salary Loan, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- Active SSS member — your membership status must be active (not delinquent)
- At least 36 monthly contributions — with at least 6 contributions within the last 12 months before the month of application
- No pending SSS loan — previous SSS salary loans must be fully paid or updated (for renewal)
- Not on disability or maternity leave — you must not be currently receiving SSS sickness, maternity, or disability benefits
- Employer must be updated — for employed members, the employer must have remitted contributions up to date
- Below retirement age — you must be under 65 years old at the time of application
How Much Can You Borrow?
The SSS Salary Loan has two tiers based on your contribution history:
- One-month salary loan: Available to members with at least 36 monthly contributions. The loanable amount equals the average of your last 12 Monthly Salary Credits (MSC).
- Two-month salary loan: Available to members with at least 72 monthly contributions. The loanable amount equals twice the average of your last 12 MSC.
For example, if your average MSC for the past 12 months is ₱15,000, you can borrow up to ₱15,000 (one-month) or ₱30,000 (two-month, if eligible).
Interest Rate & Repayment
The SSS Salary Loan charges a 10% annual interest rate on a diminishing balance. A 1% service fee is deducted from the loan proceeds at the time of disbursement.
Borrow ₱20,000 for 24 months at 10%/year:
- Service fee (1%): ₱200 (deducted from proceeds — you receive ₱19,800)
- Monthly amortization: approximately ₱920
- Total repayment over 24 months: approximately ₱22,080
- Total interest paid: approximately ₱2,080
Repayment is through monthly salary deductions (for employed members) or direct payment at SSS-accredited banks and payment centers (for self-employed and voluntary members). The repayment period is 24 months.

Loan Renewal
You can renew your SSS Salary Loan once you have paid at least 50% of the outstanding loan. The renewal is processed as a new loan, and any remaining balance from your previous loan will be deducted from the new loan proceeds.
To be eligible for renewal, you must also continue to meet the basic requirements (active membership, updated contributions, etc.).
Penalties for Non-Payment
If you fail to repay your SSS Salary Loan, the following penalties apply:
- Penalty interest: An additional 1% per month is charged on unpaid amortizations
- Loan delinquency: Your loan status becomes delinquent, preventing you from applying for new SSS loans
- Benefit deductions: Unpaid loan balances may be deducted from future SSS benefits (retirement, disability, or death claims)
- No imprisonment: Non-payment of SSS loans does not result in criminal charges, but it affects your member benefits
